Trim Levels (Exterior)
For 2022, you can choose the Ram 1500 in the Tradesman, Big Horn, Laramie, Rebel, Longhorn, Limited, or TRX trim level. Depending on the trim, you can opt for the quad cab with a long box or the spacious crew cab with a long or short box. The Tradesman trim offers daytime running lights, heated power mirrors, 18-inch steel wheels, cargo area lighting, and a rear bumper step.
Big Horn models add alloy wheels and fog lamps, while the Rebel has more rugged styling features and LED lighting. Going with the Laramie gets you mirrors with turn signals, while the Longhorn adds 20-inch wheels, side steps, LED bed lighting, and a spray-in bed liner. The Limited trim gets power-retractable side steps. The off-road specialized TRX offers higher ground clearance and unique design details, along with a performance hood with integrated amber LED lights.
Engine (Power)
Starting the Ram 1500's engine lineup is a 3.6-liter V-6 with the eTorque mild hybrid system. It generates 305 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque. With most trims, you have the option of a 5.7-liter V-8 engine, with or without eTorque. This powertrain delivers 395 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque.
You can also opt for a turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 diesel that develops 260 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque. Powering the TRX is a mighty 6.2-liter supercharged V-8 engine that delivers 702 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque. All powertrains feature an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Performance
Depending on the configuration of your truck, the Ram 1500 can tow up to 12,750 pounds and has a maximum payload of 2,300 pounds. Four-wheel drive is optional for all models except the TRX, on which it comes standard. Engineered for high-speed off-road performance, the TRX has raised suspension, adaptive dampers, and an electronic locking differential.
Interior
The Tradesman's versatile cab features hard-wearing vinyl seating, cruise control, air conditioning, a tilt and telescoping steering column, and the Uconnect 3 infotainment system with 5-inch touch screen, Bluetooth and voice command. The Big Horn adds cloth seating, 60/40 split-folding rear seats, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.
Step up to the Laramie for leather seating, heated and ventilated power-adjustable front seats, and driver's-seat memory. New for 2022 is the Uconnect 5 system with an 8.4-inch touch screen, Wi-Fi hot spot and smartphone integration. The Longhorn adds navigation and heated reclining rear seats. Limited models feature premium leather seating, a 12-inch touch screen, and a wireless phone charger.
Safety Features
Depending on the model, available safety features include blind-spot monitoring, cross path detection, adaptive cruise control, full-speed forward collision mitigation, lane-keeping assist, front and rear parking sensors, and a surround-view camera system. An available trailer reverse steering control system makes easy work of maneuvering a trailer.
